New DOF Redefines Engine Program

2026 Fall_DOF_Web Header 1280x350.jpg

Our MRO facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, has expanded its DOF (Designated Overhaul Facility) for Pratt & Whitney (an RTX business) PW300 and PW500 turbofan engines and has already inducted several engines into the shop for overhaul.

The $80 million investment in equipment, facilities, and team member development allows us to provide comprehensive engine overhaul services while reducing downtime and maximizing value for our customers.

Expanding Capabilities

This expansion increases Lincoln’s turbine engine footprint to 76,000 square feet, providing greater capacity, faster turnaround, and world-class service.

Designed for complex turbofan maintenance, the facility features 12 dedicated engine bays, expanded parts storage, specialized backshops, and streamlined workflows designed to improve safety and productivity.

As a DOF, we are now authorized to perform complete engine overhauls and hot section inspections on the PW300 and PW500 engine families. Supported models include the PW530A, PW535A/B/E, PW545A/B/C, PW305A/B, PW306A/C, PW307A/D, and PW308A/C, which power a wide range of business aircraft.

Supporting these capabilities is a next-generation 20,000-pound-thrust engine test cell. Equipped with advanced airflow technology, expanded fuel systems, start-air capability, and generator loading, the test cell validates engines under real-world operating conditions while reducing environmental impact.

Improving Efficiency

The expanded footprint is purposefully designed to streamline operations and minimize aircraft downtime. The redesigned layout centralizes shared backshop capabilities, including NDT (nondestructive testing), cleaning, flow and balance, paint, and media blasting, to support Pratt & Whitney and Honeywell engine programs more efficiently.

Warehouse space more than doubled and inventory moved closer to the shop floor, reducing parts retrieval time and shortening maintenance events.

The expansion also creates long-term opportunities for our workforce. The Pratt & Whitney team currently includes 15 technicians and is expected to grow significantly over the coming decade. By the end of 2026, dedicated teams will support the PW300 and PW500 product lines independently, with a dedicated Project Manager serving as each customer’s single point of contact.

Advanced Manufacturing

The expansion has also accelerated growth within DMS (Duncan Manufacturing Solutions), which has established a dedicated team of machinists supporting expanded in-house repair and manufacturing capabilities. Investments in advanced grinding equipment, CMM (coordinate measuring machine) technology, plasma thermal spray, balancing systems, and machining equipment help improve quality, reduce turnaround times, and lower repair costs. These capabilities can reduce customer repair costs by more than 50 percent on certain components.

DMS has also become an important manufacturing resource for the industry by working with OEMs to produce structural components needed for engine Service Bulletins. Internal production strengthens the supply chain, reduces delays, and improves overall responsiveness.

Technical Training

Advanced facilities require equally advanced technicians. To prepare for the new engine programs, OEM factory instructors conducted intensive four-week training courses for technicians from Lincoln, Battle Creek, Michigan, and our Rapid Response Teams.

Hands-on instruction included complete disassembly and reassembly of PW500-series engines, followed by factory training for the PW308A and PW308C models. These courses covered specialized tooling, turbine balancing, troubleshooting, and OEM best practices, enabling engineers and technicians to translate factory procedures directly into efficient shop workflows.

Training remains an ongoing priority. Additional factory-led instruction is scheduled for the PW306 engine in 2026, followed by PW307 and PW305 training in 2027, ensuring our technicians remain current across the full range of authorized engines.

Complete Maintenance

The DOF also strengthens Duncan Aviation’s one-stop-shop capability. Customers can combine engine overhauls with inspections, avionics upgrades, paint, interior refurbishment, or component repairs, reducing downtime, shipping costs, and coordination across multiple locations.

Customers with PW308A engines can also take advantage of the Duncan Aviation Service Program, or DASP, which provides predictable maintenance costs, transferable coverage, and access to rental engines and replacement parts during overhaul events.

Positioned For The Future

Our Designated Overhaul Facility is a long-term investment in technology, technical expertise, and customer service. Combined with advanced testing, expanded manufacturing, and continuous technician training, we are positioned to deliver faster turnarounds, improved reliability, and greater value for operators of PW300- and PW500-powered aircraft for years to come.
