LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is proud to announce that longtime Aircraft Sales & Acquisitions Representative Doug Roth has been honored with one of the Federal Aviation Administration’s most prestigious recognitions for aviation professionals, the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.
Roth joins a distinguished group of aviation veterans who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to flight safety, operations, and excellence. This award, named after the Wright Brothers, is to recognize individuals who have exhibited exemplary aviation expertise, distinguished professionalism, and steadfast commitment for at least 50 years of piloting experience or 50 or more years combined experience in both piloting and aircraft operations.
In Duncan Aviation’s nearly 70-year history, only five other team members have received this elite award: Chair Emeritus Robert Duncan, the late Harry Barr, Larry Bartlett, Ed Bowes, and David Moll. Roth now becomes the sixth.
“It is very special to me to receive this award,” said Roth. “It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years—I just can’t believe it! It truly is an honor.”
Roth’s journey in aviation began at a young age in Des Moines, Iowa, where he vividly recalls watching his father perform touch-and-go landings. His fascination with airplanes only grew stronger over time.
“I always liked airplanes,” Roth said. “Out of high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to be around airplanes at the airport.”
From his first solo flight in a Cherokee 140 to buying and selling aircraft and performing in airshows, his aviation path has been as diverse as it is impactful. He has flown a wide variety of aircraft and has participated in more than 100 air shows, showcasing his skill in aerobatic flying and his deep understanding of aircraft systems and performance.
Throughout his career, Roth credits one person as having a profound influence on his path in aviation: the late Harry Barr.
“Harry had such a vast knowledge of airplanes,” he said. “From discussing aircraft values to moving airplanes from airport to airport, I learned so much from him. I never would be where I am in aerobatics without his encouragement.”
Roth’s advice to aspiring aviators is simple: “Follow your passion. It makes coming to work every day a lot more enjoyable when you’re doing something you love.”
Roth joined Duncan Aviation in 1983, when the company had just over 200 team members. With previous experience in avionics and aircraft sales, he was encouraged by a friend to consider a turboprop sales position at Duncan Aviation. The rest, as they say, is history.
“It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” Roth said. “It’s been inspiring to watch the company grow and evolve. I’ve had the privilege of working with people who are passionate about aviation, just like I am.”
Roth has been instrumental in helping countless clients navigate the complexities of aircraft ownership. Whether assisting with the purchase of a first airplane or guiding a seasoned operator through a strategic sale, his technical knowledge, market insight, and love for the product have made him an invaluable asset to the Duncan Aviation team.
Despite his many accomplishments, he has no plans to slow down.
“I have no plans on giving it up at this point,” Roth said. “I love what I do, the company I work for, and the people I’m surrounded by.”
