LINCOLN, NEB — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce that it has resumed modifiying the Rockwell Collins TDR-94/TDR-94D at its Lincoln, Nebraska, facility. On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, Rockwell Collins announced that it, too, had resumed modifying the transponders.
With the modification to the transponder, which can be performed only by Duncan Aviation’s Avionics Component Shop or by Rockwell Collins, the TDR-94/TDR-94D meets the FAA’s mandate requiring aircraft to comply with the DO-260B standard for Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Out (ADS-B Out) by January 1, 2020.
Duncan Aviation had briefly suspended modifications to the TDR-94/94D at its Lincoln facility while Rockwell Collins developed a software fix to address a minor TSO-non compliancecommunicated on October 25, 2018.. On November 13, Rockwell Collins received an FAA waiver for the TSO non-compliance and plans to release a Service Bulletin for the software fix by the end of December. For additional information, please reference Rockwell Collins Service Information Letter 523-0825796.
“We’d like to reassure our customers that the recent software issue with the TDR-94/TDR-94D has no flight deck effect and in no way affects flight safety. The fix will be an optional service bulletin that Duncan Aviation can perform during a scheduled maintenance event or as a quick turn in our Avionics Component Shop. There is no reason to put down an aircraft for this modification,” says Vice President of Component Services, Parts Sales and Satellites Mark Cote.
Although the software issue is a completely separate modification from the ADS-B mod, the Avionics Component Shop at Duncan Aviation’s Lincoln, Nebraska, facility is able to perform both—the ADS-B modification and the software fix—on the Rockwell Collins TDR-94/TDR-94D transponders.
“Duncan Aviation never stopped upgrading aircraft for ADS-B because we had a rotable pool,” says Manager of Satellite Operations Matt Nelson. “Our other two MRO facilities (Battle Creek, Michigan, and Provo, Utah) and our 27 Satellite Avionics Shops and workaway stations are able to facilitate this software upgrade in conjunction with our Avionics Component Shop in Lincoln, Nebraska. As of Tuesday, November 13, the Avionics Shop in Lincoln again began accepting Rockwell Collins TDR-94/TDR-94D transponders for modification for ADS-B.”
