LINCOLN, NEB. — For the last several years, Duncan Aviation has been installing the air-cleaning ionization system from ACA (Aviation Clean Air) for clients interested in keeping the air in their aircraft cabins clean and fresh. ACA is an active air- and surface-purification system designed to work with the existing environmental control system on aircraft to neutralize odors and allergens and kill harmful pathogens during all phases of flight.
Air purification typically focuses on the health benefits. As important as this feature is, the ACA system is equally adept at neutralizing odors. Enclosed spaces, such as aircraft cabins, frequently harbor unpleasant odors from food carried onboard, pets, lavatories, fuel emissions, and cigarettes and cigars, to name a few. The ACA ionization system removes these odors quickly, providing a more pleasant sensory experience during the flight. As a bonus to neutralizing strong odors, the system also kills viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens. The ACA system also reduces static electricity in aircraft caused by the relatively low humidity found in the cabin environment.
The ionization technology the ACA system uses has been used in several other industries for years and has been installed in hospitals and operating rooms, office buildings, schools, airports, hotels, and other community spaces worldwide.
Duncan Aviation has created installation packages for the ACA ionization system for BD-100 and BD-700 aircraft that incorporates everything necessary for installing the system including the STC (Supplemental Type Certificate), the ionizers, and PMA (Parts Manufacturer Approval) parts kits. Duncan Aviation also has access to STCs to install the ACA system on other aircraft models.
“Additional access and modifications to the air plenum are required to install the ACA system. The ideal time to install this powerful system is during a scheduled maintenance or refurbishment event,” says Senior Avionics Sales Representative Scott Kruce. “However, because it takes less than two weeks to install, we can also perform this installation as a stand-alone event.”
