Hawker: Proper positioning of Main Landing Gear Brake Lines

October 2015

Duncan Aviation has recently seen several Hawkers with damaged emergency brake pressure lines due to contact with the Main Landing Gear (MLG) upper casings when the strut is compressed. This damage occurs when the pressure line from the shuttle valve to the inboard brake is improperly positioned during gear or brake maintenance.

If there is not sufficient clearance, the line will be contacted by the upper casing, causing damage. This damage is only visible by the use of a mirror as it occurs on the forward side of the line.

During maintenance, which involves the reinstallation of the line, ensure that proper clearance is maintained. If damage is detected, refer to Chapter 20 Standard Practices for tubing damage limitations.
