Corrosion Repair For The Hydraulic Thrust Attenuator Actuator

November 2025

The hydraulic Thrust Attenuator Actuator is a critical component responsible for operating the Thrust Attenuator Paddle on Textron Citation CJ1 and CJ1+ aircraft. This actuator operates the engine's Thrust Attenuator Paddle into the deployed and stowed positions.

The component is positioned within the engine nacelles and is constantly exposed to harsh elements—such as moisture, salt, and temperature extremes that can lead to significant corrosion.

The unit requires to be function tested every 1200 hours or 36 Months, whichever occurs first. However, we have often witnessed that these actuators do not make it between function tests.

The OEM offers no repair support on new units or replacement parts, and both the CMM and AMM lists little to no repair capability. Historically, the sole recourse for operators facing a corroded actuator has been a core exchange, which incurs significant expense and can cost up to $32,000 per unit.

Duncan Aviation Solution

To address this challenge, Duncan Aviation has developed a proprietary corrosion repair capability through the company’s Alternate Parts Solutions team. This team worked closely with Duncan Aviation Component Tech Reps and Engineering, as well as outside resources.

The rigorous repair procedure includes blending, cleaning, applying corrosion preventive coatings, and hard chrome plating surfaces back to OEM specifications. This process is fully approved by a DER/FAA representative.

Operator Savings

This innovative repair saves operators significant costs and downtime, offering peace of mind by extending the service life of this critical component. Duncan Aviation works to keep repaired parts in inventory and ready to meet operator needs.
